Tinplate, an alloy of tin (Sn) and iron (Fe), where Sn is the coating, tinplate is also called tin-plated iron

Tinplate is the common name for electroplated tin-plated thin steel plates, and its English abbreviation is SPTE. It refers to cold-rolled low-carbon thin steel plates or steel strips plated with commercial pure tin on both sides. Tin mainly prevents corrosion and rust. It combines the strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, solderability and beautiful appearance of tin into one material. 1.Opacity

In addition to causing deterioration reactions in food, light can also cause changes in proteins and amino acids. Vitamin C is more likely to interact with other food ingredients when exposed to light, resulting in a large amount of loss. According to research and analysis, the loss of vitamin C in milk in transparent glass bottles is 14 times higher than that in milk in dark bottles. Light will also cause the milk to produce oxidized odor, as well as cleavage of nuclides, methionine, etc., resulting in loss of nutritional value. 2.Good sealing

The barrier properties of packaging containers against air and other volatile gases are very important for the preservation of nutritional content and sensory quality. Comparing various juice packaging containers proves that the oxygen permeability of the container directly affects the browning of the juice and the preservation of vitamin C; metal cans, glass bottles, aluminum foil glue laminates, and cartons with low oxygen permeability affect the preservation of vitamin C. is better, among which the iron can is the best.

3. Reduction of tin

The tin on the inner wall of the tinplate will interact with the oxygen remaining in the container during filling, reducing the chance of food ingredients being oxidized. The reducing effect of tin has a good preservation effect on the flavor and color of light-colored fruits and juices. Therefore, juice cans packed in unpainted iron cans have better nutritional preservation than juice cans packed in other packaging materials, and the browning is lighter. The flavor quality is better accepted and the storage life is extended.

4. Provide a source of effective iron

Tinplate canned foods, except for a few light-colored fruit and juice cans, mostly use empty cans that are painted inside to improve the corrosion resistance of the container. Due to the electrochemical effect of the metal, there will be a small amount of canned food in painted cans during storage. The iron is leached out and exists in the form of divalent iron in sealed canned foods. It is easily absorbed by the human body and the content is about 1 to 10 ppm. For fruit and vegetable products, the raw materials themselves do not contain much iron. Iron canned products are calculated based on the iron content of 5ppm per can of a 350ml beverage can. Each can can provide 1.75mg of iron, which is about ten times the human daily intake of 18mg. one part. If the above-mentioned fruit and vegetable juice beverage cans are rich in vitamin C, iron can be more easily absorbed, so iron canned food and beverages can be regarded as a good source of iron, and the nutritional significance of tin canned food is even more profound.

Because of these properties, tinplate cans provide a closed system that is completely isolated from environmental factors except heat. It prevents food from deteriorating due to light, oxygen, and moisture, and does not become dilute due to the penetration of aroma or be affected by environmental odors. The food storage stability is better than other packaging materials. It has the highest preservation rate of vitamin C and the best preservation of nutrients.
