Performance

Nickel-copper alloys are mostly used to make parts that operate in high-temperature environments that require high corrosion resistance, high-temperature fatigue resistance, etc., such as traveling wave tubes, magnetrons, etc. NCu28-2.5-1.5 alloy is very stable in dry gas at room temperature, but corrodes severely in nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfide and halogens such as chlorine, bromine and iodine containing moisture. In neutral, alkaline and weakly acidic carbonate, hydrochloride, sulfate, nitrate and acetate solutions, NCu28-2.5-1.5 alloy is corrosion-resistant; when the above media contains iron, When the chlorine salts of copper, tin are used, the corrosion rate is accelerated. In contrast, it slows down when containing chromate and glucose.

Characteristic

Adding nickel to pure copper can significantly improve strength, corrosion resistance, hardness, electrical resistance and thermoelectric properties, and reduce the temperature coefficient of resistivity. Therefore, white copper has exceptionally good mechanical and physical properties compared to other copper alloys. It has good ductility, high hardness, beautiful color, corrosion resistance and deep drawing properties. It is widely used in shipbuilding, petrochemical industry, electrical appliances, instruments, medical machinery, and daily necessities. , handicrafts and other fields, and is also an important resistor and thermocouple alloy. The disadvantage of white copper is that the main added element-nickel is a scarce strategic material and is relatively expensive.

Classification

Complex white copper
Copper-nickel alloys with added elements such as manganese, iron, zinc, and aluminum are called complex copper-nickel (i.e., copper-nickel with more than three elements), including iron-nickel copper, manganese-nickel copper, zinc-nickel copper, aluminum-nickel-nickel, etc. In complex white copper, the second main element symbol and the component number group other than the copper content indicate the content of various elements. For example, BMn3-12 means that the nickel content is about 3% and the manganese content is about 12%.

There are 4 models of complex white copper:
Iron-nickel copper: Models include Bfe-1.5 (Fe)-0.5 (Mn), Bfe10-1 (Fe)-1 (Mn), Bfe30-1 (Fe)-1 (Mn). The amount of iron added in iron-nickel copper does not exceed 2% to prevent corrosion and cracking. It is characterized by high strength and its ability to resist corrosion, especially the corrosion of flowing seawater, can be significantly improved.
Manganese white copper: Models include BMn3-12, BMn4.0-1.5, and BMn43-0.5. Manganese white copper has a low temperature coefficient of resistance, can be used in a wide temperature range, has good corrosion resistance, and has good processability.
Zinc cupronickel: Models include BZn18-18, BZn18-26, BZn15-12 (Zn)-1.8 (Pb), BZn15-24 (Zn)-1.5 (Pb). Zinc-nickel copper has excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, excellent corrosion resistance, good cold and hot processing formability, and is easy to cut. It can be made into wires, rods and plates, and is used in the manufacturing of instruments, meters, medical equipment, daily necessities, communications and other fields. of precision parts.
Aluminum cupronickel: Models include Bal13-3 and Bal16-1.5. It is an alloy based on copper-nickel alloy and added with aluminum. The density is 8.54-0.3. The alloy properties are related to the ratio of nickel and aluminum in the alloy. When Ni:Al=10:1, the alloy properties are the best. Commonly used aluminum-nickel coppers include Cu6Ni1.5Al, Cu13Ni3Al, etc., which are mainly used for various high-strength corrosion-resistant parts in shipbuilding, electric power, chemical industry and other industrial sectors.
Ordinary white copper
Copper-nickel binary alloy (i.e. binary copper-nickel) is called ordinary white copper. In ordinary white copper, the letter B indicates the content of added nickel. For example: B5 indicates that the nickel content is about 5%, and the rest is approximately copper content. Models include B0.6, B19, B25, and B30.

Industrial white copper

Industrial white copper is divided into two categories: structural white copper and precision resistance alloy white copper (electrical white copper).

(1) Structural white copper:
Structural white copper is characterized by good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, and beautiful color. Among structural cupronickel, the most commonly used ones are B30, B10 and zinc cupronickel. In addition, there are aluminum-nickel copper, iron-nickel copper and niobium-nickel copper. B30 has the strongest corrosion resistance among white copper, but is more expensive. The performance of aluminum-nickel copper is close to that of B30, its price is low, and it can be used as a substitute for B30. Zinc-nickel copper has been produced and used in China since the 15th century and is called "Chinese silver". The so-called nickel silver or German silver also belongs to this type of zinc-nickel copper. Zinc can be solid dissolved in copper and nickel in large quantities, producing solid solution strengthening and resisting corrosion. After zinc-nickel copper is added with lead, it can be smoothly cut and processed into various precision parts, so it is widely used in instruments, meters and medical devices. This alloy has high strength and corrosion resistance, good elasticity, beautiful appearance and low price. The aluminum in aluminum-nickel copper can significantly improve the strength and corrosion resistance of alloy steel, and its precipitates can also produce precipitation hardening. Structural white copper is widely used in the manufacture of precision machinery, chemical machinery and ship components.

(2). White copper for precision resistance alloy (electrical white copper):
White copper for precision resistance alloys (electrical white copper) has good thermoelectric properties.
BMn3-12 manganese copper, BMn40-1.5 constantan, BMn43-0.5 constantan and new constantan using manganese instead of nickel (also known as nickel-free manganese white copper, containing 10.8~12.5% manganese, 2.5~4.5% aluminum, 1.0~ iron 1.6%) are manganese cupronickels with different manganese contents. Manganese cupronickel is a precision resistance alloy. This type of alloy has high resistivity and low temperature coefficient of resistivity, and is suitable for making standard resistance components and precision resistance components. It is a material used for manufacturing precision electrical instruments, rheostats, meters, precision resistors, strain gauges, etc. Constantan and cocoan have high thermoelectric potentials and can also be used as thermocouples and compensation wires. Product Application

Among copper alloys, white copper has excellent corrosion resistance and is easy to shape, process and weld.

It is widely used as corrosion-resistant structural parts in shipbuilding, petroleum, chemical industry, construction, electric power, precision instruments, medical equipment, musical instrument production and other departments. .

Some white copper also has special electrical properties and can be used to make resistance elements, thermocouple materials and compensation wires. Non-industrial white copper is mainly used to make decorative crafts.
